Preparing for Academic Transition    Speaker:  Ben Wahl.

Students with disabilities often have a difficult time with a transition to a new school
setting and they need support in adjusting to new norms, new teachers, new
services and new buildings.  This presentation is most relevant for parents of
fourth graders and up and it will provide parents with concrete strategies to
help their student prepare for middle school, high school or post-secondary
settings.  The transition to new school settings is an opportunity for students
to take new steps towards self-sufficiency and this presentation will give
parents new perspective and optimism about transitions.  Ben Wahl, MSW is the
founder and director of Aspiring Youth,
www.aspiringyouth.net, and provides social skills groups, summer programs, coaching and young adult transition services.
