Volunteer Opportunities! IMS is preparing for the big move to the new school this summer and needs a little help!
Teachers have been asked to have their classrooms packed up by June 17and the Administration and classified staff have been asked to have their offices packed by June 22. If you would like to be added to a list of volunteers the school can call upon for some unique end of the year opportunities, please sign up HERE. You will be asked to sign in to the website before you can access the volunteer list. On-line sign ups will be sent out for various jobs during the last trimester, particularly in June, and will include primarily packing books and other supplies, especially in the library.Many hands make light work. Your time and effort will be greatly appreciated. PLEASE JOIN US!
The ISF Nourish Every Mind Luncheon is Thursday, April 28. IM PTSA will host a table for the Nourish Every Mind Luncheon. We would love for you to join us. This is a wonderful event to learn more about the Issaquah Schools Foundation. Ron Lieber, author of NY Times bestseller “The Opposite of Spoiled - Raising Kids Who are Grounded, Generous, and Smart About Money”, gives parents practical advice on how to have honest conversations with children of all ages about money. Learn how talking about money can teach life lessons and import strong values by teaching modesty, patience, generosity and perspective.
Below are several planned parent (and student) ed events organized by our partners of the Healthy Youth Initiative team of Issaquah Schools Foundation.
State of Mind Mini-Conferences Saturday, March 19, 12 noon to 4:00 p.m., Issaquah High School Saturday, April 2, 12 noon to 4:00 p.m., Liberty High School Saturday, April 23, 12 noon to 4:00 p.m., Skyline High School
The event is open to everyone - students (middle and high school appropriate), parents, teachers, school staff and community members. It is also open to people living outside the district.
Everyone is invited to attend one, two or all three State of Mind mini-conferences focused on topics related to youth mental health. Each school mini-conference will have a different focus, including how to cope with stress, how to help friends who are struggling with depression, or how to detach from technology. Each mini-conference will also offer a core of basic classes in topics such as the impacts of drugs on the developing brain, healthy relationships, body image, and living with mental illness.
FROM COMMUNITY PARTNERS.... Free Day at Sammamish State Park...all for a good cause! On Saturday March 19 Friends of Sammamish State Park are holding a Walk ’n Wag 5k and all-access 3k to raise funds to build an all-access playground just feet from the swimming beach and the new bathhouse. The event begins at 10 am and takes place on the Washington State Parks 103rd Birthday — A free day at the park. Register for the walk, bring your dog, enjoy this beautiful State Park in our own backyard, and support a project that will benefit all children in the community. To register follow this link.
TechSmartKids Computer Science Coding Class
TechSmartKids, a leading provider of computer science education for K-12 is offering before school computer coding classes located at Issaquah Middle School this spring on Wednesday mornings. Students learn to code in Python, a professional coding language widely used in the software industry. Class meets once a week for 90 minutes. Enroll online or by calling (425) 786-7824 .
