Catch Up Cafe -Volunteer Opportunity

The PTSA has partnered with the school to help run Catch Up Café, a lunchtime program that allows kids to catch up on missing assignments while eating their lunch. One volunteer is needed to help take attendance, get kids engaged in their missing work and track down kids who forget to come.  A great way to interact with kids and help the school.  A teacher will also always be in attendance so no discipline is required of you and you do not have to be a subject expert.  For more details and to sign up, PLEASE CLICK HERE . Please contact Tara Moe with questions.

Party Planners Needed!- Volunteer Opportunity!

The PTSA is looking for chairs for our 8th Grade Celebration which will occur on the afternoon of June 5th.  Each year, after 8th grade promotion, the class attends a special off-site celebration for the afternoon.  This year, for the first time, we will be traveling to the UW, where the kids will be treated to an afternoon in the Hec Ed recreation center, complete with bowling, video games, dancing and more.
Chairs work with ASB Secretary Julie Morgan to sell tickets at lunches in May, decorate the venue and deliver snacks and goodies as well as staff the event with volunteers.  If you are an event planner with good organization, this is the job for you!  It's so much fun to celebrate the achievements of our 8th graders! If you would like more information about this job, please contact Tara Moe .

How will WA State Pay for Our Kids' Education?

What education funding models are they talking about in Olympia right now? What are the benefits and challenges of the "prototypical school" model our state currently uses? What are the benefits and challenges of "student-centered" approaches, like the one recently proposed in our WA State Senate?

COME FIND OUT NEXT WEEK!  EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

Because PTA is a nonpartisan organization, this will be a nonpartisan, educational event.

  • SPEAKER: Kelly Munn, League of Education Voters, State Field Director
  • WHEN:  Thursday, March 2, 2017; 12pm to 1pm
  • WHERE:  Lake Washington School District Resource Center -BOARD ROOM  (Redmond Town Center;16250 NE 74th St, Redmond, WA 98052)

This year is an historic opportunity to make a difference in Washington. Many important changes to our education system are being discussed, and important state budget issues are being decided as our legislature tries to comply with the 2018 deadline to fully fund basic education. Our advocacy opportunity this session has a short time frame and a deadline. If we miss it, we may not get another opportunity of this magnitude for a long while.

Learn more now so you can speak up effectively and knowledgeably on the issues that matter to our community and the future of our kids!

Join us for a fascinating talk with John O'Sullivan, author of Changing the Game. Conventional wisdom holds that youth sports are a positive experience for our children, yet 70% of children drop out of organized athletics by the age of 13. Youth sports has become an ultra-competitive, adult centered enterprise that has taken the “play” out of “Play ball” for far too many kids, but we can change that. In this talk, you will learn:

 - How to Keep Your Kids in Sports!

- How to Give your Child a Competitive Edge

- To Push and Praise Your Kids to Perform Well

- 3 Ways to Change Your Kids Sports Experience for the Better

 - How To Motivate Your Kids to Take Ownership for Sports

- How to Help, and not Hinder, Their Performance Through the Things You Say and Do

Free for Issaquah PTA/PTSA members. For non-members, suggested donation of $10 at the door. Save your seats by clicking the 'Register' button.
