March 9, 2020

Good morning!  Obviously, the topic on everyone's mind is the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Issaquah School District's initial safety measures last week, and where we go from here.

Last Thursday, March 5th, the Issaquah School District issued a number of safety measures in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).  While the full announcement with all the details is available here, the basic changes affecting the IMS community through Friday, March 20th are as follows:

1. Facilities Use by Outside Groups -- Suspended
2. All Field Trips -- Suspended
3. All Games, Concerts, Dances, Plays, and Information and Evening Events -- Canceled or Postponed
4. Travel by ISD Staff -- Suspended
5. Volunteer Work -- Suspended
6. Staff-Led Internal School Sports Practices and Club Activities -- Will Continue
7. Parent and Guardian Normal School Business / Pick Up and Drop Off -- Will Continue

If after reading the District's full announcement you still have questions regarding the effect of any of these measures on your family, contact the IMS front office for clarification.

While these initial measures are currently scheduled to apply through March 20th, keep in mind that this is a constantly evolving public health situation that may require extending these current measures or introducing additional measures to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and the entire IMS community.  Make sure that you are receiving all communications from IMS and the District.  Additional information may be found on the ISD website.

The PTSA continues to plan events and programs for the remainder of the school and will notify you if there are any changes to those scheduled events.   Thank you for your continuing commitment to our students.

The IMS Annual Career Day originally scheduled for Feb. 7th has been rescheduled for May 1st from 8:00 am to 10:00 am.  IMS is looking for parents, guardians and community members to give a short presentation about their current or past career and pathway.  Please share this with family and friends who have interesting or unusual careers or have a unique story of how they ended up there. We need a wide variety of professionals to make this a well-rounded event for students to learn about something they might like to pursue in the future.

If interested, contact IMS School Counselor Oracio Valdez at valdezo@issaquah.wednet.edu with the following information: (1) occupation title; (2) name of employer; (3) one sentence about what’s cool about your job; and (4) you mailing address.

Volunteers at IMS are required to complete the District Volunteer Application HERE. If you haven't done so already, please complete this process after signing up.

VOLUNTEERING AT IMS

We would love to have you consider volunteering at IMS.  All volunteers must complete the District’s online registration and be approved before they can volunteer at school.  If you were approved to volunteer last year, you still need to sign in to the District’s online system, complete the training, and update the required information.  Please remember there is a delay between completing the volunteer application and getting approval, so don’t wait till the last minute to start the process.  Click here to sign in.
