WALKABOUT TRAINING
Jan 24, 7:00 p.m.
IMS Library
If you’d like to volunteer for IMS’s Walkabout Program, please come join us for the second and last training of this school year. It will be hosted by Principal Seth Adams on Thursday, Jan 24, from 7:00-8:30 pm in the IMS Library (above the main office). The training is mandatory if you’d like to volunteer, but once you’re trained, you can sign up for as many or few Walkabouts as you’d like. Walkabout is a PTSA-sponsored, school-supported, parent-staffed program that provides a positive and friendly adult presence on campus during high-traffic times (before school and during lunches). The added adult presence discourages inappropriate behavior, allowing students to feel safe, and the program also gives parents the opportunity to be part of the school and their child’s day. Plus, you can grab a friend (and a coffee, hot chocolate, or tea) and log in some additional steps. It’s fun!
Parent Ed/Maker Night
Jan 24, 2019 6:30 – 8:00pm
Gibson Ek Commons
Join Juliette Ripley-Dunkelberger in an evening of exploration of creativity and education. Why is creative thinking necessary? How can we use it for success in school and industry? And how does it fit into STEM? We will start with a 20-minute TedTalk by Sir Kenneth Robinson about creativity and education. We will then discuss the importance of creative thinking, and how to apply it to diverse fields, including STEM. Finally, we will put our knowledge to the test with an open-ended exercise.
