The nominations for Executive Committee for next year (July 1, 2012-June 30, 2013) are shown here. Elections are scheduled for April 18th at the General Membership Meeting. Work continues to fill the Treasurer role/responsibilities. Your suggestions are welcomed.

LEADERS ANNOUNCE "NO CUTS TO EDUCATION"

Today state Senate leaders made a welcomed first step in meeting their paramount duty to fund education. They announced a no cuts approach to K-12, and they promised immediate progress toward fully funding Basic Education, as promised in 2009’s House Bill 2261.“This reaffirms our key message: Kids come first,” said Novella Fraser, Washington State PTA president. “Kids need a great basic education, and they need it fully funded.”“We see inadequate funding for schools play out on a very personal level. We know the kids who are not reading well and we work with the staff struggling to support them. The schools are stressed, staffs are stressed, and volunteers are stressed. Finally, we’re seeing a commitment to invest in kids’ future.” Washington State PTA remains concerned about programs that support children and will work to make sure safeguards are in place to keep kids healthy and safe.In addition to holding off on all K-12 and higher education cuts, the Senate proposal invests $32 million in reducing K-3 class sizes and allots funds to implement new evaluation systems that focus on student and professional growth.

2012 Bond Information Meeting

2012 Bond Information Meeting for Corridor Schools: Clark, Issaquah Middle, Tiger Mountain, and surrounding communities 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8

Issaquah Middle School Issaquah School District Capital Projects and administrative staff are hosting an informational meeting about the corridor projects in the April 2012 bond measure. Parents, staff, students, and community members are invited to come here about the plan to rebuild Issaquah Middle School on the current Clark site and to move Clark and Tiger Mountain to the current Issaquah Middle School site. The presentation will cover the logistics, possible timing, and potential layout of all the new campuses, plus how the rebuilds could impact neighboring communities. Questions? Call 425-837-7000.

NOTICE TO AMEND PTSA STANDING RULES

Today the rules state:

9. The elected officer’s of this unit shall be President(s), VP of Communications, VP of Ways and Means, VP of Programs, VP of Volunteers, VP of Hospitality, Secretary and Treasurer. These officers shall constitute the Executive Committee. All elected officers must be current IMS PSA members.

Proposed change:

9. The elected officers of this unit shall be President(s), VP of Communications, VP of Ways and Means, VP of Programs, Secretary and Treasurer. These officers shall constitute the Executive Committee. All elected officers must be current IMS PTSA members.

Why:

Eliminating VP of Hospitality and VP of Volunteers allows for persons in that position to serve a longer term if desired. In addition the training schedule will be less arduous for those positions and the nominating committee will need to fill fewer positions.

This amendment will be voted on at the next General Membership Meeting on January 19, 2012
